Last evening as I read the Passion narrative, I recognized again an important truth:
Remorse for sin is insufficient for God's forgiveness, if that's all one has – remorse. Only when remorse is coupled with repentance – a turning from sin, a conversion to godliness – only then can we receive God’s forgiveness.
Judas had remorse for his sin, but without repentance and conversion. So, he hanged himself.
Peter felt remorse for his own sin, but he paired it with repentance and conversion. And he received complete forgiveness from God.
Do you want to be assured of His forgiveness? Do you want to be useful for the Master? Be like Peter. Be sorry for your sins – and add to your sorrow repentance and conversion.
