Selling our Soul

"Then when Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that He had been condemned, he felt remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? See to that yourself!” -- Matthew 27:3-4

When I read this section the other day, I thought: "When you sell out your Lord, when you sell Him for a few pieces of silver, a few years of ‘pleasure,’ and the applause of others, the buyers will always in the end turn to devour you – and mock you while they do it.

The take home lesson? Sell your soul to the One who loves you enough to have paid for it with His blood. And then serve Him the rest of your days.

This is so true! A good friend remarked to me that never before have we lived in such a Godless age. When we deny that God exists, that Jesus died for us, and that God set a standard for us to live by, anything goes. When we deal with the anything goes people, we should expect nothing more than being cast aside and ridiculed when we are of no more use to them. Think of politicians, judges, and commentators who deride citizens who exercise their rights of free speech and freedom of religion.

If people want to live free from religion and jam their demand that the rest of us follow, we Christians should never go quietly into the night. Rather, it's time for us to put on the armor of God and give them a run for their money. God gave Constantine a sign - "In Hoc Vinces" - "In this sign you will conquer". The cross became the standard of his army from then on. With the armor and the standard, our eyes fixed on the Lord, we will win our souls.
