Clearly,
the apostle Paul suffered from a lack of faith. From his own pen he describes
some of the deep and ongoing problems and torments he endured. Here is a
portion from his second letter to the Corinthians:
“In afflictions, in hardships, in distresses, in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in
labors, in sleeplessness, in hunger . . .” (2 Corinthians 6)
A little earlier in the letter – chapter 4: “We
are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not
despairing; persecuted, but
not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always
carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus
also may be manifested in our body. For
we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so
that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. (2 Corinthians 4).
Yes, poor Paul just didn’t understand how to live the victorious life of
faith like so many modern prophets (profits?) proclaim to hundreds of thousands
of sheep seeking teachers to tickle their ears (please see 2 Timothy 4:1-5).
Listen! Texts taken out of context are usually nothing less than
pretexts to teach error to the Biblically illiterate. If those hundreds of
thousands of sheep spent more time studying the Scriptures – not simply reading
them but STUDYING them – they would not be so easily deceived by ‘prophets’ who
profit from their Biblical ignorance.
Please! I IMPLORE you: Set yourself to read and study God’s word every
day. Search the internet for annual Bible reading plans. You will find one that
fits your personal needs.
Time is running out for Christians in America to be fluent with the Bible.
