Why do we believe Jesus is King? And Lord?
Because our parents told us it’s so?
Our teachers? Pastors?
Books we’ve read?
Homilies we’ve heard?
Or do we believe Jesus is King,
and Lord,
because we’ve met Him.
Because we know Him.
Because we speak with Him.
Believing in Jesus is not the same as
believing Jesus.
Trusting in Jesus is not the same as
trusting Jesus.
Which is why
what the Lord asked of Pilate
He asks also of you
and me:
“Do you call Me King,
and Lord,
on your own initiative?
Or because of what others have told you of Me?”

Good question. My answer would be both. St. Paul says Faith comes through hearing. I was born and raised Catholic and believed because of that. Then I quit practicing my Faith and walked away from God. Now as a revert, I can say I know Jesus and believe Him because I grow every day in appreciation of seeing Him act in my life. He is a real Person to me.
One thing that helped me a lot was developing a devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Wonderful. To know Him is the greatest blessing we could possibly have. Thanks be to God.
Barb and Nancy, thanks for your comments. I ask myself questions like this quite often. I think doing so keeps me focused on the things of faith that are most important.
Others told me, I looked for Him and finally met Him whom I had somehow known from the beginning, coming to me in the stories of saints,the trappings of first communion and the saintly sisters who taught me. The prayers in my little prayer book, however, were always filled with words far beyond my experience.
